23 WORLD GASTROENTEROLOGY NEWS OCTOBER 2014 Editorial | Expert Point of View | Gastro 2015: AGW/WGO | WDHD News | WGO & WGOF News | WGO Global Guidelines | Calendar of Events INFLAMMATORY BOWEL DISEASE is a chronic disease usually diagnosed in younger people (15 to 30 years of age) with significant im-pact on quality of life. Around 10% of patients with inflammatory bowel disease do not respond to current biologic therapies, and 30% lose their response within the first year. Novel biologic therapies for severe inflam-matory bowel disease maybe more effective, and allow patients to recover their quality of life to a large extent by minimizing symptoms and reducing hospitalizations. These drugs may even reduce the number of patients ultimately requiring surgery. All the information about the Span-ish Society of Digestive Pathology (SEPD) and the Spanish Digestive Diseases Week (SED) can be found on www.sepd.es. A lecture takes place during the annual meeting of the Spanish Society of Digestive Pathology.
