The intes-tinal microbiota was also extensively debated in a number of conferences. Claudio Fiocchi (Cleveland Clinic), in one of his conferences, extraordinarily reviewed the role of microbiota in hu-man health, emphasizing its possible relation with gastrointestinal diseases, especially in IBD. The plenary sessions involved gastroenterologists, surgeons and endoscopists, who debated in detail topics such as IBD, Barrett’s esopha-gus, pancreatic and biliary tract diseases and digestive cancer. The young gastroenterologists could ac-tively participate in the congress and had a special session on gastroentero-logical urgencies. Surprisingly, 1,277 clinical and experimental abstracts were received and were presented in scientific sessions, testifying to the great amount of research being done in Brazil in the field. Many studies were of high scientific quality and re-ceived awards during the SBAD, and will soon be published in renowned gastroenterological journals. The SBAD is already a tradition in Brazil, being the most respected congress in the area, and the organiz-ing committee is currently working on its XVI edition, which will be held in Brasilia between the 11th and the 15th of November of 2017. Presidents of CBCD (Dr. Bruno Zilberstein), FBG (Dr. Maria do Carmo Passos) and SOBED (Dr. Ramiro Mascarenhas) at the award delivery to Dr. Marcellus Souza of the Federal University of Ceará, Brazil. He received the “Prêmio Jaime Eisig” for the best research work in SBAD (“TRPV1 Receptors Modulate Acid Induced Esophageal Inflammation in Surgical Murine Model of Gastro- Esophageal Reflux Disease”).
