The celebration of World Digestive
Health Day (WDHD) began on
29 May 2019 and is in full swing.
The success of WDHD, a yearlong,
worldwide, public health campaign, is
derived from the combined efforts of
the World Gastroenterology Organisation
(WGO), The WGO Foundation
(WGOF), WGO Member Societies,
WGO Training Centers, WGO Regional
Affiliate Associations, and other
WGO partners worldwide.
Campaign Information
The WDHD 2019 campaign theme is
“Early Diagnosis and Treatment of GI
Cancer.” By participating in WDHD
2019, you will help to:
• Promote a multidisciplinary and
personalized treatment of digestive
cancers to achieve better clinical
outcomes
• Increase the awareness of the public
on the benefit of screening and
early detection of digestive cancers
• Provide gastroenterologists,
hepatologists, their patients, and
the lay public with an understanding
of the latest basic and clinical
research on the early detection,
screening, and treatment of digestive
cancers.
• Translate research into clinical
practice to inform physicians,
pharmacists, allied health professionals,
healthcare payers, and the
public of the risk factors, causes,
and treatment of digestive cancers
• Stimulate international collaborations
that foster improved digestive
cancer education, research,
and training especially in the
developing world
• Increase awareness of digestive
cancers by providing a better understanding
and recognition of the
GI cancers as a global burden
