The national conference of the
Indian Society of Gastroenterology,
ISGCON 2018, was held with
great success from 28 November – 1
December 2018 at the Lulu Bolgatty
International Convention Centre
in Kochi, India. The meeting was
organized with the Indian National
Association for the Study of Liver
(INASL) and Society of Gastrointestinal
Endoscopy of India (SGEI).
ISGCON 2018 was a scientific update
on current knowledge and future
advances in the field of gastroenterology,
hepatology and GI endoscopy.
Eminent faculty were selected from
across India and around the world to
lead this scientific journey. The meeting
was attended by over 2500 including
gastroenterologists, scientists, and
industry partners. 215 speakers and
202 chairpersons participated in 156
lectures, eight panel discussion as well
as four debates.
Dr. Naresh Bhat, President of the
Indian Society of Gastroenterology,
said in his speech that the gut is in
many ways our second brain and its
influence is extensive. “Eat healthy
food, lead an active lifestyle, manage
stress and optimize your gastrointestinal
health. A healthy gut means
a healthy you.”
“Our country is worst hit for
reasons attributable to rapid urbanization,
change in food habits, lifestyle
and genetic factors,” said Dr. Mathew
Philip, director of the PVS Institute of
Digestive Diseases in Kaloor, Kochi,
referring specifically to issues in India.
Hands-on workshops for doctors
and endoscopy technicians as well as
a training program for nurses were
other highlights of the event.
