Special World Congress of Gastroenterology
Historical Commemorative Display
The special WCOG commemorative
display at the World Congress of Gastroenterology
(WCOG) at ACG 2017
in Orlando, Florida, USA included
memorabilia and footage highlighting
the World Congresses of the past.
The WCOG at ACG 2017 marks
the third time (1958, 1994 and 2017)
that the World Congress of Gastroenterology
has taken place in the United
States in the last nearly 50 years. Attendees
of the WCOG at ACG 2017
marveled at footage from the 10th
Anniversary of the World Congress
of Gastroenterology in Los Angeles,
California, USA in October 1994.
They listened as Dr. Henry L. Bockus
(1894-1982), a leading American
gastroenterologist from Philadelphia,
Pennsylvania, USA, who was elected
as the WGO’s first President, gave
his opening speech and welcomed
attendees to the first World Congress
of Gastroenterology which was held
in Washington, DC, USA on 29 May
1958. Dr. Bockus’ vision to enhance
standards of education and training
in gastroenterology lives on today
and was brought to life during the
WCOG at ACG 2017.
