The International Symposium on
Inflammatory Bowel Disease (IBD
2017) was held in Chennai, India,
from 29 September to 1 October
2017. It was held to increase awareness
of the disease and its management
in countries where IBD is being
increasingly and newly diagnosed, as
well to celebrate the World Digestive
Health Day (WDHD) 2017 focus
on IBD.
It was organized by Dr. KR
Palaniswamy, Chief of the Department
of Gastroenterology, Apollo
hospitals, Chennai, India and Dr.
Udayakumar Navaneethan, Director
of the IBD Center and Interventional
IBD Unit, Orlando, USA along with
the support of Dr. Bala Subramanian,
Apollo hospitals, Chennai, India and
Dr. Palaniswamy addressing the symposium.

The symposium was organized in
two parts. The first part of the symposium
was dedicated to patients living
with IBD and included approximately
50 IBD patients. The IBD patients
had one-on-one time with world
experts in IBD, clarifying their personal
experiences they had with their
disease and the management options.
The second part of the symposium
was focused on the medical community
in South Asia, and was organized
as a two-day program that included
state-of-the-art lectures by world
experts, case-based discussion and
video forums in IBD. There were a
