Prospective Member Societies

The World Gastroenterology Organisation (WGO) has over 100 Member Societies, representing over 50,000 individual gastroenterologists, hepatologists, GI surgeons, and other health care professionals worldwide. This reflects the true global nature of WGO and our aim to represent and support the discipline of gastroenterology worldwide. Partnership with our members is the keystone of WGO’s global activities. We welcome your society to join our global GI network!

The Importance of Society Membership in WGO

By becoming a member of WGO, your society has the opportunity to participate in various activities around the globe, such as World Congresses of Gastroenterology, Train the Trainers workshops, and access to WGO Training Centers.

Member societies also enjoy many other benefits, including access to WGO Global Guidelines & Cascades, listing on the official WGO website, and global promotion of programs and events.

More detailed information is available about WGO Societal Membership benefits.

The Application Process

Legally constituted gastroenterology, hepatology, endoscopy, and other related-discipline societies and specialized sections or groups in those disciplines in regions in which there is no society are eligible to become Societal Members of WGO.

In order to process your application, your society needs to submit following documentation:

Once all these documents have been received in good order, they are processed by the WGO Executive Secretariat and presented to the WGO General Assembly for ratification. Should your application be received between World Congresses, it will be reviewed by the WGO Executive Committee, who can grant interim society membership in WGO until the next General Assembly meeting.

The membership fees in WGO are calculated according to the number of members of each society (i.e. a fee of $3 USD per member per year). Each member of your society will receive a copy of the WGO electronic newsletter, e-WGN, which appears four times per year.
