Milwaukee, USA — June 6, 2017 — The World Gastroenterology Organisation (WGO) has announced the release of the newly updated “Diagnosis, Management, and Prevention of Hepatitis C” Guideline with Cascades.
About This Guideline
The newly updated Hepatitis C Guideline and Cascades, chaired by Professor Muhammad Umar, Principal/Dean, Rawalpindi Medical College, Chief Allied Hospitals, Rawalpindi, Pakistan, will be of interest to all health professionals in primary and secondary care involved in the management of people with hepatitis C infection in different countries of the world. It covers all stages of the disease management pathway: screening, testing, diagnosis, referral, treatment, care, and follow-up of children and adults with, or exposed to, hepatitis C (HCV) infection. “These guidelines will help the Physician treating Chronic Hepatitis C patients particularly in resource constrained countries as well as categorizing their patients for future therapies with DAA. During the last four years (2013-2017), an enormous amount of new evidence in the management of HCV has been published and we deemed it was time to update the guidelines,” noted Professor Umar.
The Hepatitis C Guideline was created with the global view of many Guideline Committee members and special advisors including Muhammad Umar (Chair, Pakistan), Aamir G. WGO currently has a library of over 20 Global Guidelines and Cascades, which are written from a viewpoint of global applicability. Each guideline goes through a rigorous process of authoring, editing, and peer review, and is as evidence based as possible. WGO is the only organization whose guidelines have adopted a global focus. The WGO guidelines are unique in that they utilize “Cascades” which provide various diagnosis and evidence-based treatment options that are scalable to available local resources and infrastructure in countries with varying resources. Each WGO guideline is available in English, Spanish, Portuguese, French, Mandarin, and Russian, and is updated as new information and evidence is discovered. The Global Guidelines Committee meets each year to discuss updating and creating new guidelines and consists of 30-plus members from around the globe.
