Introduction:
The Training Center in Lagos was inaugurated as a World Gastroenterology Organisation (WGO) Training Center on April 18, 2015. Located in the Lagos University Teaching Hospital (LUTH), a hospital affiliated with the Medical school of the College of Medicine, University of Lagos. The Training Center is organized in collaboration with SOGHIN (Society for Gastroenterology and Nepatology in Nigera.)
Training Programs:
The Lagos Training Center provides structured training and expert instruction on diagnostic and therapeutic endoscopy (gastroscopy and colonscopy) in a 4-5 day work shop format, with both basic I and intermediate II courses. This includes the use of animal models/simulators, didactic lectures, and hands-on training. Highly skilled and experienced endoscopists will be drawn from SOGHIN and also international experts from the UK and USA.
- There are two medical and five general/surgical gastroenterologists on staff. Additional workshop faculty will be drawn from skilled gastroenterologists from SOGHIN and other national/international visiting/invited experts.
- LUTH currently has four GI trainees (medical).
- There are currently two large endoscopy units in regular use. There are three additional units in the LUTH surgical skills training center.Training Programs
