Directors

Profs. Thein Myint, Moe Myint Aung, & Thein Htut

Introduction

The WGO Myanmar Training Center was inaugurated on March 16, 2015 with the support of the Myanmar Gastrointestinal and Liver Society.

Facility

The Myanmar Training Center is located inside the Department of Gastroenterology at the Yangon General Hospital (YGH). The YGH Department of Gastroenterology currently has one endoscopy unit with five procedure rooms (four rooms for gastroscopy, colonoscopy, double balloon enteroscopy, and one fluoroscopy room for ERCP). The YGH Department of Gastroenterology also has an integrated medical imaging area, dedicated lecture room, and nearby library.

Training Programs

The Myanmar Training Center has four gastroenterologists on staff at the YGH Department of Gastroenterology and 10 trainees as of March 2015. Medical and nursing trainees come from the Yangon General Hospital, Thingangyun San Pya Hospital, Mandalay General Hospital, No. 2 Military Hospital and Surgical Department.

Currently the Myanmar Training Center offers annual two week (10 work day) courses. During this course, mornings consist of teaching in the two endoscopy suites and contain short introductions followed by endoscopy demonstrations. There are two gastroenterologists and one endoscopy nurse in each procedure room. Afternoons are a combination of case presentations by trainees and lectures by teachers in one lecture theater.
